2023 highlight
Mark Cavendish
In 2023 the day after his 38th birthday, Mark Cavendish announced his retirement. Still winless going into the final week of the Giro, Cavendish had one final chance of maintaining his record of never having left the Giro without a win.
In 2023's edition of The Road Book, Cavendish recounts this exhilarating final stage in his own words and reflects on an especially poignant season.

"2023 was a year of rapid change. Events piled upon events as in a game of whist; ever better cards falling on top of others, the next one trumping the last in an excess of superlatives. Nothing stayed still for long. At times it was dizzying.
And what did we glean from what we saw? We learned that suddenly the tiniest of gaps can become a chasm. Once the breach has been made, however slight, it takes no more than a little continued pressure for everything to fall apart at once, and at a violent pace. We are left wondering how it ever held together for so long, witnesses to the speed at which things unravel, understanding with new clarity that perhaps it was always going to collapse. We just didn’t see it coming."
These are not like any normal book, they are a wealth of information and the quality and attention to detail is such that it will be useful for years to come.

Gift
I ordered the book as a gift to my son. He enjoys it.
Took advantage of the discount and bought 2018 through to 2023 - fantastic value. Essay contributions across these volumes are interesting, expert & passionate about cycling. Looking forward to the 2024 edition. Definitely the “Wisden” of cycling & a must for any fan.
So half to have the full set of rosd book annuals - they are beautifully presented and thoughtfully compiled inside - a fascinating and incredible encyclopaedia of racing.
